What Happens in Usui Reiki class?

More often than not people wonder why my Usui Reiki Class Series (Usui Reiki I, II, III, & IV) is such a huge time commitment. We spend five hours (11am-4pm) together the last Saturday of each month, practicing and discussing reiki. For those who do not know, reiki is a form of energetic healing that channels Universal Love (divine energy, God, whatever resonates) to balance your energy. So I thought I’d walk you through what my first class generally covers, and my teaching style.

Usui Reiki I Class Agenda:

  • Usui Reiki Theory

  • The First Symbol

  • Attunement

  • Reiki Healing Practice

  • Q&A

If you’ve looked into other Usui Reiki I classes you’ll notice we learn the first symbol in the first class which is not common! However the way I learned reiki, we broke down the symbols to one for each class. This helps you take time to use each individual symbol and learn how it feels for you. The timing between each class is one month, so you have roughly a month to feel the attunement for that symbol and bond with it. I also offer a private Facebook group for my students to post any questions you have or you can bring those questions to the next class should you choose to take it.

More often than not this is the most “talk” heavy class, majority of the time is spent explaining the history of reiki, how reiki works, and other cultural elements to reiki to consider.

After that we discuss the first symbol, its uses and history. I did a deep dive on each of the four symbols to uncover information about them to bring to class. This helps show you the roots of the symbol and how it’s evolved in its use today.

Generally the most exciting part of class for students is the reiki attunement. You’re probably wondering, what’s an attunement? In short, a reiki attunement is bringing you in energetic alignment with the symbol you just learned about in class. So ready or not you’re a healer! Shedding all of that energy that no longer serves you and matching your energy with the first symbol is such an empowering feeling. Everyone goes through their own experiences with each attunement. We often chat about our experiences with the attunement before diving into reiki practice.

Finally you practice reiki in class with your peers! We’ll go through an example demonstration before you practice and then you’ll try giving reiki and receiving reiki. Afterwards, we’ll talk about what you picked up on and how that can inform what suggestions you could offer after giving reiki sessions.

Each of the four classes has a similar structure with different information provided at the beginning that can add to your reiki practice. My personal goal for each of my students is to give you the power to cultivate a spiritual practice that best suits your needs. If this sounds like something that interests you, sign up for the next Usui Reiki I Class!
